Your numbers
Which numbers do you get after the KVK?
Short answer
From the KVK you get your KVK number right away. From the Belastingdienst you then get two VAT numbers: your btw-id (VAT identification number) and your omzetbelastingnummer (VAT tax number).
Your KVK number and btw-id go on your invoices and your website. Your omzetbelastingnummer is only for contact with the Belastingdienst. For an eenmanszaak it contains your citizen service number (BSN), so never put it on an invoice.
What they look like
- KVK number: 8 digits. Each location of your business also gets a vestigingsnummer of 12 digits.
- Btw-id: NL, then 9 digits, the letter B and 2 digits. Example: NL123456789B01.
- Omzetbelastingnummer: 9 digits (for an eenmanszaak your BSN), the letter B and 2 digits. Example: 111234567B01.
Where do you find them?
Your KVK number is on your registration and in your extract (uittreksel). The two VAT numbers arrive by post, in two separate letters, within about ten working days after you register with the KVK. Lost them? Log in on Mijn Belastingdienst Zakelijk, choose Btw and look under Btw-identificatienummer: both are there.
On your invoice and website
Your invoice must show your KVK number and your btw-id, together with some other details. If you have a website, your btw-id, KVK number and contact details must be on it too.
